| Most people who telephone me fall into one of two categories -
they either know exactly what laptop they want or, they are rather unsure
about the technicalities and not sure what to go for. So, if you
fall into the unsure camp, a quick few words follow to help you
decide your rental laptop.. A few things as starters - we do not rent high end or gaming laptops, and, we have very few hire laptops with long battery lives over 90 minutes. We do hire a good range of mid range laptops. These are ideal for surfing the web, E Mail, using Word, Excel and PowerPoint, watching DVD's, viewing photographs, storing music, and recording DVD's. Our Hire laptops fall into two major choice categories - (a) Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 and, (b) Microsoft Office 2003 or Microsoft Office 2007. Windows 7 is the latest operating system from Microsoft. The operating system is what you see within a minute of switching on and controls basis functions. Windows 7 comes with greater security, and more functions. It does not like older programs pre 2003. If you have used a previous operating system like Windows XP you will find that Windows Vista and Windows 7 have all the familiar things. Microsoft Office 2007 has a different interface to Microsoft Office 2003. But, given an hour or so and most people find their way around. It is important to note that unless you have told it otherwise, saved Microsoft Office 2007 files may not be backward read by older versions of Office. If you are not comfortable with computers, perhaps best avoid Microsoft Office 2007 and instead, rent a laptop with Microsoft Office2003. |
Laptop PC Hire Technicalities - Software (Programs)
Windows 7 is new but keep in mind that anything new comes with minor teething problems. And, Windows 7 likes some old programs and hardware such as cameras. printers and scanners BUT some old programs and equipment will just, not work. If in doubt, head for Windows XP or Windows Vista. Like wise, if you are used to Microsoft Office 2003 and, do not have time to learn something slightly different and new, then rent a laptop with Microsoft Office 2003. |
Laptop PC Hire Technicalities - Hardware
 Once you have made the Windows Office decision then your choice
then comes down to the hire laptop hardware. Unless you have a specialist
requirement then here we are talking about the Processor, the Memory
and the Hard Disk. The Hard Disk is where your files are stored and
for the average user our rental laptops have plenty of space. The Memory
and Processor influence the speed of the laptop and this is
particularly relevant with the Windows Vista / 7 operating systems. The
higher the Processor GHz and the more Mb memory then, as a rule, the
faster the hire laptop will go. |
